Kevin Greenspon — Coincide

It takes some serious musical chops to shift between genres as seamlessly as Kevin Greenspon does. One minute he’s sharing a split with Cloud Nothings and pumping out sugary pop confections like “Carpool Pepsi”, and the next he’s crafting pillowy ambient movements that stretch beyond the 8-minute mark (see above). Like “Threshold”, “Coincide” is brutally gorgeous in its bare, weightless simplicity. You’ll often find drone/ambient artists raiding the book of post-rock clichés (slow builds! explosive climaxes!), but Greenspon deftly avoids these traps. Rather than hinging itself to a structure, “Coincide” just sort of floats, ebbing and flowing with the cosmic tide. The 3-track Ad Seg cassette is out now on Hi Shadow Records- get it here.
